Mindsteward Kids Theater:
The Complete Theater Experience
an educational theater arts experience like no other

Here at Mindsteward Kids Theater, we believe that theater education should be an all encompassing experience. This is why our two week summer camp offers personalized schedules for each camper, intertwines an internship program, and allows children to collaborate on a 60 minute musical theater production. We teach all the bells and whistles that come along with theater productions, including robotics and backstage crew, and set design through visual art. Each camper gets to choose from one of our four majors: On-stage theater, backstage theater, robotics, and visual arts. We also offer a wide variety of electives including but not limited to candy-making, baseball, gymnastics, visual art, dance, instrumental music and improv. Campers can each choose three electives. Read more about our camp below.
Why the arts?
Art and music connect both hemispheres of the brain, assisting children's learning needs and supporting information retention. People can learn any subject on a deeper level when taught within the context of the arts. Our bodies create new synapses between the two hemispheres when we play an instrument or sing a song. Our camp offers electives in instrumental music, gymnastics, strategy games, dance, acting, and languages skills including American sign language and Spanish. We are growing in the culinary arts department, puppeteering, and ventriloquy.
Campers pursuing onstage theater as a major get a chance to sing, dance, and act while being a part of a living breathing story. Kids, Pre -K through 8th grade (4-13 years old) , perform in four 60-minute Broadway Jr. Musicals. Kid Campers are led by highly-trained, experienced and certified teachers in acting, singing, blocking, pacing, dancing, and perform with a live pit orchestra.
Teens, 8th grade graduates (13 - 18 years old) perform two 60-Minute Broadway Jr. Musicals. Teens are led by highly-trained, experienced and certified teachers in acting, singing, blocking, pacing, dancing, and perform with a live pit orchestra.
Campers pursuing backstage theater as a major learn Technical Theater: how to support and run the production from behind the scenes. In the process, campers build their organizational and technical skills. After being briefed on all aspects of Technical Theater, Kid and Teen campers choosing this major will specialize and be given specific roles to perform during the show - all behind the scenes.
Backstage campers will be briefed on visual art components of a production, animatronics and puppetry through robotics, and stage crew roles. Visual artists will help paint and put together set pieces and props, getting to exercise their imaginations and bring the world of the show to life through crafts, painting, and set design. Campers who specialize in robotics learn to invent, create, program, and live-control their creations during the shows using technology such as camera and voice-overs to bring their robots to life onstage. Stage crew roles overlap both areas, as campers learn to move set pieces, run the light board, open the curtain and much more!
